Dear Parents, This month, the children will be reading familiar French texts in class and a different one will be introduced every2 weeks. We will practice reading and acting out the text using actions. This is a fun way to practice their oral and reading comprehension skills. Grammar concepts will be introduced while reading. During our centers, the children will collaborate in small groups by playing games and completing written activities related to the story. The following story will be introduced this week and will continue well into next week. A new story will be posted soon. The grammar concept introduced in this story is the noun, and they were asked to search for the nouns in the story. You may practice reading the story with your child paying close attention to correct pronunciation and using expression and gestures. This is a reminder to all grade 3 students: ALL FRENCH IMMERSION FORMS NEED TO BE HANDED IN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. A big thank you goes out to all those students who have already handed in their forms. Merci! Madame Panetta |

La classe de Mme Panetta In Social Studies the children in grade two are learning that the world is made up of 7 continents and 5 oceans, and that most of the world is made up of water. They are learning that the globe is a model of the Earth and the map is a flat representation of the Earth. They are learning that communities located near the pole are cold (e.g. arctic) and communities located near the equator are hot (e.g. the desert). As a final in class project they will describe some similarities and differences in the ways in which people in two or more communities in different parts of the world such as Kenya, Peru and Nunavut meet their needs and have adapted to the location, climate and physical features of their region. The children in grade three are learning about present day urban and rural communities in Ontario. They are comparing the way the land is used, their different lifestyles and employment opportunities. As a final project the children will be asked to work in groups where they will build or create a map of an imaginary urban community. For those students who decide to build their community, the materials needed must be brought in no later than Friday January 27. Ms.Coulas French News
